Acephala’s collection titled “Daddy’s girl” is a continuation of our interest in power suits and their perception.
“Daddy’s girl” – a muse of this collection is a powerful and self-made woman, someone who was once an impressionable young girl who subconsciously saw male figures including her father associated with job roles of masculinity because society told her so. In our AW2018-19 collection you can see the possibility to reverse an outdated image. By decoding uniforms of power associated with masculinity she might transform herself into someone who denotes strength in her own right as an empowered woman.
The collection is based on deconstruction of 5 uniforms of power: some more codified – professor’s suit or biker’s clothes – other driven by associations or myths as geeky jerseys or cowboy’s attire, and finally totally metaphorical one: an impressive body sculpture. All of them can be redesigned with touch of wit and irony. And these reworked versions become new uniforms of power.
The collection mixes oversize male forms with feminine detailing. Highlights of the collection include male inspired corduroy suits composed of cropped jackets with classic breast pockets and Acephala logo chenille patch on the sleeve and boxy trousers with pleated front. Denim styles are made of classic Japanese denim in dark blue indygo with unraveled edges and folds exposing wrong side of the fabric as decorative elements. Biker clothes inspiration is visible in black tailored styles made of experimental organic cotton fabric covered with cork coating.
For this collection for the first time we have used custom designed knitted sweater: an oversized, two-colour style with bodybuilder image (jacquard technique), available in two colour options: purple-green and brown-beige.
Special elements include jersey styles decorated with a set of embroidery patches (1. embroidery patch with an image of bodybuilders 2. embroidered asterix 3. chenille patch with a statement: “My strength might not come form my muscles but I have the power to take over the world”): t-shirts, dresses, sweatshirts.
Photographic campaign for AW2018-19 collection is visual experiment in storytelling. Daddy’s girl’s story is told by combining fashion photography with classic portrait photography which exposes similarities and differences between traditional power suits and contemporary girl’s wardrobe.
