Portraits by Kasia Woźniak
2016, Poland is a series of portraits exploring the complex relationship between female and the experience of the female body. A form of a dialogue with cultural patterns as well as stereotypes that shape social life, more importantly the internal feelings of a woman. The inner voice that becomes trapped between current social conditions and political environment. A question of physical ownership that is being taken away and therefore forgotten.
This series of portraits document the female staring into the lens of the camera, with the voice being encapsulated and silenced during the long exposure of the photograph. The silence that becomes apparent from the everyday aspect of vocal communication, leaves only the created portrait of the female body to convey the silenced order. The project aims to draw a distinct line between the connection and separation of women, body and mind.
Kasia Woźniak, photographer who specialises in the Wet Plate Collodion process. The Wet Plate Collodion process is one of the first photography techniques, dating back to the beginning of the nineteenth century. She lives and works in London.
Exhibited photographs are on sale in a limited edition of 20 signed prints. 40% of the selling price will be donated to the Centrum Praw Kobiet / Center for Women’s Rights – cpk.org.pl.
